Monday Made It!: How to Build an Anchor Chart out of PVC

What does PVC pipe and a willing teacher make? Anchor charts holder of course! After seeing so many pictures of these adorable anchor charts, I know I needed one as well. I'm so happy I was able to do it because it came in handy for back to school! I can't wait to walk into my classroom with it. It just makes my happy teacher smile.

So here are some general questions and tips if you want to dive right in this project.

Q & A

The total cost of the projec twas &8.37 with tax. The PVC pipe I used cost 4 1.52 and everything cost between .37. and .87 cents. I thought it was such a bargain! The items I used are the following:

  • (1) 1/2 PVC pipe ( these are the really long one and smallest) FYI the store sell these already cut but the cost will go up by  $2.47

  • (6) 1/2 PVC solid elbows. I can't emphasize the Solid part of the PVC elbows. PVC elbows and tees get sold in either solid or with rods inside of them. Is easier to work with solid. But, if you decide to do the ones with rods make sure everything you buy has rods as well.

  • (2) 1/2 PVC T's These go all the way at the bottom and is what makes your chart stand
  • (2) rings - This is what will hold your mini anchor charts

Here are the steps:

  • Measure with the paper you are going to use , the width and length.
  • Before cutting the PVC pipe make sure you leave rooms for the elbows and T's
  • To create the bottom part of the anchor chart , connect the T at each end
  • Cut a 4 small pieces of PVC to connect the elbows
  • Connect an elbow to each corner
  • And you are done!
Good luck! Link up with Monday Made it! And tell us about your creation!

Sunday Scoop!

So are you ready to hear my Sunday scoop? I am so excited to be linking up with The Teaching Trio to bring you today's Sunday Scoop.

3 Things I have to do

One of my goals for the summer was to level my books. I tried really hard to accomplish this but.... I found some many other things that needed my attention as well. So, there went that plan down the drain! But, I am still hopeful. This year I will be having an assistant in the classroom, yay! So, I figured she can help me with this task. Two more pair of hands are better that one. Isn't that right?

Another I have to task is moving my bins to the classroom or to storage. Yes, I have storage! I have to! I'm trying to get organized with all the things I have. I have come along away. At some point you couldn't walk in my house because of how many boxes there were everywhere. Thank goodness that I'm a little bit organized in how to arrange everything in the box.

And of course! Back to school countdown would not be complete without some laminating and cutting. I'm not sure what teacher doesn't do this, especially this time of the year! I decided to change my theme and go for something more updated and that it would appeal to bigger kids. I can't wait to share pictures of the classroom reveal!

2 things I hope to do

This is so hard! I can name you like 1,000,000,000 I hope to do. But, in honesty I just hope to be ready for the 1st day back. I know I am step ahead of most of my peers in my school. I have dedicated all summer to planning the year out by creating my own pacing guides and organizing my resources so, I won't forget to use them while I'm covering that unit. Yes,I create my own pacing guides because I teach a combination at the same time of 1st and 2nd grades. More on that craziness in the near future.

I really, really really hope to keep my anxiety and nerve on check. I usually get anxiety the day before. Not the first day of school but the first day back to work. My hands start to sweat and I can't shut up! That's a horrible combination right there! But its always exciting because every year is a new year to start from fresh and meet new peers.

1 thing I'm happy to do

This definitely without a doubt is cleaning my office. I have been an undercover hoarder for quite some time without even knowing. I know how does that happens? easy! You store everything in container and you hide them or try to put them in any space where they fit. At least that's what I did, thank goodness I am breaking the habit! But, I learned that organizing has to be an everyday task in order not to fall in the trap again!

What's is your Sunday Scoop? Write, share and link up to The Teaching Trio!

Our Teaching Tribe August Challenge

You know what's sucky about regular Spanish posters ? They only come in generic colors. What fun those general posters bring to the classroom? I’ll answer that: NO FUN AT ALL. You know what is fun? Using easy to read, bright color pictures and inviting posters to practice consonant blends in Spanish. And that's what Georgina from Teach and Tell US created just for you!

I'm kicking off this month with a blog hop and a  product trade off! It's always exciting for me to try out other people product and showcase their work. This month I was paired up with Georgina from Teach and Tell US. Georgina is a dual classroom teacher with four years of experience.

One of the products that I absolutely fell in love with is Silabas Trabadas. This is a perfect product to start the year with. Not only will this save me time but the kids are going to love the kid friendly and vivid pictures. I know, I do! The size of the picture and letters make this set of cards pop!

Imagine a group of children coming together and practicing the sound of the letters in Spanish. What better way to introduce Spanish to those little one with these no prep poster set. The bright color use has not only brighten up my class but has given me that extra push to make learning more appealing.

In my class, I will be using the posters as a daily review to the sounds. Many children in the past have trouble putting these sounds together. Practicing it everyday will make my little ones become stronger Spanish speakers and what better way to do this with these eye catching posters.

As I set up my classroom for the new year, I can't imagine myself not using this product to aid in the instruction of Spanish. I'm so excited to go into my little classroom and put them in my class. As a new teacher to the dual program in my school, I know Georgina products will come in very handy. That means one less thing to do in my to do list! You mush check out her other products as well.

Be sure to check out some other great product by joining in the blog hop!
